Armature Works: A hidden gem in Tampa Florida
For those of you that may be new to the Tampa area, or who plan to visit in the near future, Armature Works (and the Riverwalk area) should be on your list. Armature Works is a historic mixed-use redevelopment in the Tampa Heights neighborhood of Tampa, Florida. The building includes a 10-story former Armature Works building, which has been redeveloped into a food hall, event space, and co-working offices, as well as two new residential buildings.
The Armature Works project is located on the Hillsborough River, just north of downtown Tampa. The building was originally built in 1910 as a streetcar barn and warehouse for the Tampa Street Railway Company. The building was renovated in 2014 and now houses over 20 local food and beverage vendors, as well as event space and co-working offices. The Armature Works food hall is one of the largest food halls in the United States.
In addition to the food hall and residential buildings, it also includes a public park and riverfront promenade. The park features walking and biking trails, a dog park, and a playground. The promenade provides access to the Hillsborough River for kayaking, paddle boarding, and other water activities.
During our most recent visit, free yoga classes were taking place in the green space between the building and the river. While there is also a water taxi that will take you to other spots up and down the river we, along with many others, choose to walk along the walking and biking path that takes you by several parks, children’s museum, and other interesting sites.
The area gets pretty busy during the day, so if you’re hoping to park nearby, I suggest arriving early before it opens and taking advantage of the walk areas, then returning for a bite to eat.
Armature Works is located at 1910 N Ola Ave in Tampa, Florida.
