How to Spend a Relaxing Day in Corfu Greece
Corfu is an island in Greece that is part of the Ionian Islands. It is located off the northwestern coast of the country and has a population of approximately 110,000 people. The island has a Mediterranean climate and is known for its beautiful beaches, clear waters, and lush vegetation. Corfu is also a popular tourist destination due to its many historical and cultural attractions. Some of the most notable sights on the island include the Old Town of Corfu, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the Venetian fortress of Angelokastro.
During our most recent trip, we decided to take it easy. We did go to the fort, but otherwise spent most of our time walking the street and markets to see what we might run into.
Old Fort
If you’re looking for a taste of history, then be sure to visit the old fort in Corfu. The fort was built in the 16th century and is a fascinating example of Venetian architecture. You can explore the fort at your own pace, or take a guided tour to learn more about its history.
Shopping and Markets
The island of Corfu has a wide variety of markets and shops to explore. From the bustling streets of the capital to the quaint villages dotting the countryside. Corfu’s many farmer’s markets are the perfect place to find fresh produce and local specialties. These markets are held throughout the island, so be sure to check the schedule in advance.
Corfu is home to some of the best olive oil in the world. The island has a long history of producing olive oil, and today there are many different types of olive oil available. You can buy olive oil that is cold-pressed, extra virgin, or flavored with herbs.
Corfu Town
Corfu town is a beautiful place to visit. Definitely make time to just explore without an agenda and see what you mind. Certainly, there are museum options as well, but we found the city itself interesting enough.
