Santorini and Oia, Greece: Like no Other Place on Earth

Santorini is a special place that always manages to amaze me and is one of my favorite Mediterranean destinations. The island’s unique landscape, created by the volcanic eruption centuries ago, is like nowhere else on earth. And despite being one of the most popular tourist destinations in Greece, Santorini still retains its small-island charm.

Donkey Rides

Santorini is home to some of the most stunning scenery in all of Greece. And one of the best ways to take in the island’s natural beauty is by taking a donkey ride up the cliff.

The donkey ride takes you on a leisurely ride up the cliffside, providing incredible views along the way. The donkey ride lasts for around 30 minutes and is suitable for all ages.

Cable Car

For those that don’t feel like sitting on a donkey and prefer a less “rustic” mode of transportation, there is always the cable car as well. I suppose you could walk up/down as well, but I would definitely use one of these methods as you want to keep your energy up for the city itself.

Don’t worry, once you reach the top, you can still see and visit the donkeys and take some pictures of oddly standing donkeys on the hillside.

Capped Domes

Once at the top, you will be treated to iconic and breathtaking views. Among the endless blue-topped buildings, Santorini is home to a number of Byzantine-style churches, which feature intricate domes that are capped with metal crosses. These churches are popular tourist destinations, as they offer a unique glimpse into the island’s rich history.

For those that may not have been to Santorini before, it’s definitely a bucket list item to do before you die. There is nowhere anything close to its picturesque views and unique architecture set on top of the cliffs and definitely one of my favorite destinations. Surely there is some shopping and food, but in my opinion, it is all secondary to the city itself.
